Q: What is refacing ?
Refacing is the process of covering the visible, outermost flat panels of the cabinets -consisting typically of the bottoms, sides and fronts- with a new plastic laminate material (often referred to as "formica", from Formica the premier manufacturer of such laminates) or wood veneer. One can think of it as a new, but durable "wrapper". All visible surfaces are covered in the new color/grain, new doors are made and installed with new hinges to provide your kitchen with a brand new look.
Almost any color of Formica can be used, as well as real wood veneer, finished with a durable lacquer.

Q: Do I keep my old doors ?
No, not usually. When you reface, the old doors are rarely salvaged because they need to be trimmed around the edges to form edges that are square in order to apply new veneer or laminate. The process of trimming reduces the overall height and width dimensions of the old doors, making them inappropriate in size and shape to fit and cover the openings in the cabinets.

Q: What exactly is involved in refacing ?
First you choose style & color for the new doors & drawer fronts. Hereby you can select from a wide variety of styles (square, rounded corners, arched top), solid colors, patterns or wood grain looks.
The cabinet opening for the doors & drawers are measured. In three to five weeks from the placement of the order the doors & drawer fronts are ready for installation. The cabinets are then sanded and bottoms, sides and faces covered in new plastic laminate or wood veneer. Lastly the new doors & drawer fronts are installed.

Q: Is there a mess ?
Like any type of remodeling, there is a certain amount of mess involved. Most of which comes in the form of fine wood chips, some dust and occasional noise.

Q: How long does it take ?
Depending on the size and complexity of the job, it can take an average of 5 to 7 days to complete
